How can I possibly learn how to become a chef if I already have a full time job?

Back To School Without Quitting Work

The desire to become a chef is usually cultivated over time: from the child who made mud pies to the adult always adding a little special “something” to recipes. People who choose chef school are typically energetic, passionate, highly creative individuals with a distinct sense of flair. If asked, these people would probably say they thrive in pressure-cooker atmospheres where, at the end of the day, they feel they've made a contribution to the world.

For people already holding down full time jobs, the question isn't how to become a chef, it's when will I find the time to become a chef? Luckily, the world of academe has grown with the needs of the general population. Classes aren't all 8 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For those of us who have to work for a living and don't have the option of quitting a good job to go back to school, The French Culinary Institute is the answer. By taking classes in the evenings, people can work toward their dream of becoming a chef manager or head chef. As with any post-secondary institute, prospective students should contact the school either online, by phone, or in person, to determine where the focus of study will be. Options include Classic Culinary Arts, Classic Pastry Arts, The Art of International Bread Making, and a variety of advanced and amateur courses.

Once the program choice has been decided, it's just a matter of completing an application form. Make sure to carefully read all prerequisites and submit any additional documents as required.

You don't need to know how to become a chef to apply for one of these programs. All you need is the desire to learn.
